Career Options in India
At a time when the craze for lucrative jobs drives students to Engineering and Medical professions, a private school at suburban Kolathur in North Chennai today showcased vast career opportunities available in other booming sectors in the country.
If the students want to ‘ever win’ in life, there’s more to career options than engineering and medicine:this was the message from a career and job fair organised by the Everwin Matriculation Higher Secondary school, today.
Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting S Jagathrakshakan inaugurated the career job fair at the Everwin school, and lauded the school management for its effort to create an awareness among the people.
”Students are more attracted to engineering and medical courses because they can land lucrative jobs later”, he said. But there are several other fields that offer enormous job opporunities and this two-day career option fair organised by the school was a step in the right direction, he lauded.
The expo showcases various sectors that offer courses and help the students to make a choice of their career. Spread over 30,000 sq ft, the career option fair was organised in the school premises in wich more than 6,000 students from 100 schools in North Chennai got to know the employment potential available in various sectors.
The highlight of the two-day event was that students dressed like IAS and IPS officers, doctors and Engineers, welcomed the visitors and explained the nature of jobs available in each sector.
A book containing list of career options for students and the job opportunities available in the respective sectors was given to all those who visited the career expo fair. School Correspondent B Purushothaman told UNI, ”we have identified more than 100 areas which offer tremendous scope for career and job opportunities. There is little awareness among the students and their parents in this regard. And this fair is aimed at showcasing the opportunities available in a plethora of areas”, he added.
Apart from Medical and Engineering, job opporunities in health sector, food processing sector, fisheries, media, money and marketing, retail and banking finance, education, beauty and fashion, law, travel and tourism, bio-tech, shipping, army and defence and real estate were the other sectors that offer immense job potential to students.
Students could select a career of their choice from a host of areas like pharmacy, dental, physiotherapy, veterinary science, ayurveda, sidda, yoga, nutrition, dietician, hotel management, hospitality, dairy development, ICWA, MBA, ACS, Quality Ontrol, Finance, BPO, journalism, sports, HRD, Teacher training, Multi-lingual subjects, library, Research and Development, Fashion, designing, paniting, photography, animation, Interior and exterior designing, Horticulture, Floriculture, Fine arts and sculpture.
”Since every one focusses more on engineering and medicine, there are literally no takers for other sectors. This career opporunity awareness expo was organised exclusively for the people of North Chennai”, Purushothaman said.
